American Argent Mint vintage 1 Oz silver bullion rounds

American Argent Mint

American Argent Mint was incorporated in 1982 and was based in Provo, Utah. During its existence, it minted a single known 1 Oz silver round. The round's reverse pictures a silver trade unit with the mint's name, and the obverse depicts a shield. The round was minted with .999 Fine Silver. American Argent Mint ceased operations in 1984.

At least two other rounds exist with the shield obverse. It is paired with a Motherlode Montana die and a 1986 Statue of Liberty die. The 1986 Statue of Liberty round was definitely not produced by the American Argent Mint. A question exists concerning the Motherlode Montana round since the Motherlode Montana die has also been found with dies made by the Liberty Mint (a Liberty Mint Constitution obverse). These additional pairings link the American Argent Mint and Liberty Mint. Either Liberty Mint secured rights to the American Argent Mint dies after it dissolved or Liberty Mint was the minting facility for the American Argent Mint rounds. The truth story remains a mystery. .
