Avon

Avon Products, Inc. or simply known as Avon, is a multinational cosmetics, skin care, fragrance and personal care company, based in London. It is the fourteenth-largest beauty company and, with 6.4 million representatives, is the second largest direct-selling enterprise in the world (after Amway).

Avon uses both door-to-door salespeople ("Avon ladies", as well as "Avon men") and brochures to advertise its products. The first Avon lady was Persis Foster Eames Albee. Avon operates training centers for potential representatives. Some Avon training centers have a small retail section with skin care products, such as creams, serums, makeup, and washes. Avon recruits sales representatives who sell beauty products, jewelry, accessories, and clothing. According to the U.S. government, Avon has 5 million to 6 million sales representatives operating in over 100 countries as of 2014. Avon and its subsidiaries have 40,000 to 50,000 employees, 6,000 of which are in the United States.

During the years from 1988 to 1990, Avon gave Achievement awards to its top employees, both on a quarterly and yearly basis. The Achievement awards were in the form of silver rounds, 1/4 Oz for top quarterly performers and 1/2 Oz for the top performers at the end of the year. The awards were given out in each district. There were four award categories: Recruiting, Sales Increase, Customers Served, and Total Sales. The top district representative in each category received a 1/4 Oz gold-plated round for that category while the second place representative received standard 1/4 Oz round. On a yearly basis 1/2 Oz gold-plated rounds were awarded to the top representative in the district and standard 1/2 Oz round went to the runner-up. The overall top performer in the District would receive a 1/4 Oz gold-plated Star Performer during each quarter and a 1/2 Oz gold-plated Star Performer round for the year. All Star Performer rounds were gold-plated.

Little is known about the either the mintage of the rounds or the company which manufactured them. Both the regular and gold-plated rounds were minted with .999 Fine Silver. The rounds themselves are undated but the Achievement awards were in effect only from 1988-1990 so all the rounds were produced during those years.
