Columbia Mint vintage 1 Oz silver bullion rounds

Columbia Mint

Columbia Mint was a precious metals investment company in existence from 1974 to 1983.  The company was based in Delaware and was one of several corporations that were owned and operated David and Francis Margulies. In the mid 1970's they produced quite a few silver art bars.  In the early 1980's they began to branch out into reproducing miniature gold coins such as the 1908 St. Gaudens.

They were misleading in their marketing, often claiming that the rounds and medals were produced under the auspices of the US government.  The US government sued them as a result of this and the company went under.  It was also during this time that they produced their only known 1 Oz silver round, a 1982 George Washington commemorative 1 Oz proof-like round. Their mintmark is a scripted "C" over an "M". All of their silver products were minted with .999 Fine Silver.  Their gold replica coins were minted with 0.5 gram of 24K gold.
