Type 1 US Assay Office silver round minted by Continental Coin. These rounds have an interesting history tied to the Manhattan Project.
Obverse: The obverse depicts an eagle flying in front of a flag (Type 1). Above the central image the weight of "ONE TROY OUNCE" is inscribed. and immediately below that "31.1 GRAMS". Sprigs of ivy flank the eagle on both sides. The inscription beneath the eagle reads ".999 FINE SILVER". The phrase "SILVER TRADE UNIT" is inscribed beneath the purity inscription on the outer edge.
Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the text describing the provenance of the silver "FORMERLY STORED/AT/U.S. ASSAY/OFFICE/SAN FRANCISCO/CC". The CC is the mintmark for Continental Coin. The Type 1 rounds have a large CC mintmark. The date 1981 is found below the central inscription and is flanked on each side by 3 stars. The inscription around the rim reads "MINTED FROM U.S. STRATEGIC STOCKPILE SILVER".
