1972 1 Oz FBC New Orleans JD Grey Round BU

Rare round!

Obverse: The obverse depicts an image of JD Grey, declared Pastor emeritus of the First Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana. Circumscribing the image are the phrases "FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH NEW ORLEANS, LA" and "ORGANIZED 1843". To the left of the image is the text "JD GREY, DD PASTOR" along with the dates he served "MAY 1, 1937 - DEC 31, 1972". The initials "EAE" are inscribed at the bottom.

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is text which gives a brief biography of his life and accomplishments. Surrounding the central text is a verse from Philippians 1:21 which states "FOR ME TO LIVE IS CHRIST - PHILIPPIANS 1:21". The bottom of the round is decorated by a Maltese cross flanked on either side by sprigs of ivy. 

Edge: The edge is smooth. The composition of ".999 FS" is inscribed at the bottom of the round.
