Draper Mint

Draper Mint was founded by Lloyd Hewitt in 1960 and was based in Draper, Utah. Hewitt spent his career surveying mineral deposits for different mining companies. His background in geophysics was instrumental as he assisted in developing new technologies for mineral surveys. The downturn of the mining industry in the 1960s allowed Hewitt to start a new company called Draper Mint Swiss of America, which focused on providing the public access to gold and silver. The refinery, located in an old poultry processing plant, refined platinum, gold, and silver. Swiss of America was in operation from 1972 until its dissolution in 1986.

Although the Swiss of America brand is the flagship brand of the Draper Mint, the company also produced precious metal products under other names. Additional branding included Swiss of Utah, American, Rocky Mountain Mint (RMM), and Kingsmen Silver. Handy & Harman was also affiliated with the mint. While in operation, Draper Mint minted a range of silver and gold products. All the brands produced poured and cast silver bars in sizes from 1 Oz to 100 Oz. 

The only brands producing rounds were Swiss of America and RMM. Swiss of America minted several rounds for the investing public that bore the Swiss of America logo. There are several obverses paired with several reverses. The rounds were made in 1 Oz, 2 Oz, 2.5 Oz, and 5 Oz sizes. A single 1 Oz gold round was also produced. Swiss of America also minted a few 1 Oz advertising and commemorative silver rounds. RMM minted a single 1 Oz silver round. Most of the 1 Oz rounds are medallion-sized, but the heavier rounds and one of the 1 Oz Swiss of America issues were chunky "rolo" rounds. All silver products were made with .999 Fine Silver.
