Pegasus Gold Corp vintage 1 Oz silver bullion rounds

Pegasus Gold Corp

Pegasus Gold Corp was established in 1978 and was headquartered in Reno, Nevada. The company operated several gold mines in Montana and Australia including the Zortman-Landusky Mine located in Montana. In 1993, Pegasus was cited by the EPA for illegally discharging pollution from the mine. Several lawsuits were filed by the local tribes, the state, and the EPA, and in 1996 Pegasus Gold arrived at a settlement with the affected parties. The effects of the legal problems coupled with the fall in gold prices in 1997 forced Pegasus Gold to close the mine it operated in Australia. The following year, Pegasus Gold filed for bankruptcy and closed down all operations.

Pegasus Gold minted the "Silver Pegasus" series of silver rounds depicting various mines and mining operations with which the company was involved. One round per year was issued from 1984 through 1995. The rounds are proof-like with limited mintage but the mintages are unknown. They were minted with .999 Fine Silver.
