Somalia Wildlife
Somalia Wildlife government issued silver bullion coins

Somalia Wildlife

In 2018, the Bavarian State Mint began issuing a new bullion series on behalf of the country of Somalia.  The series was called the Somalia Wildlife series.  The reverse of the new series features a leopard. Like the Elephant series, the Somalian Wildlife Leopard series features .999 quality fine silver and are considered to be legal tender in Somalia with a face value of 100 shillings. A new design is struck on the reverse side of the coin each year, although the leopard will continue to be the motif.

Most of the silver coins produced in the African Wildlife Series are made in BU condition. There are, however, numerous other collectible options that are struck at the mint every year, such as proof and colorized versions. Currently the 1 Oz round is the only size produced but fractional coins may be produced in later years.  The mintage of the series is limited with 30,000 coins issued each year.  This appears to be the mintage that will be issued annually.

Obverse: The obverse of this silver coin is consistent, depicting the coat of arms for Somalia. This features a shield with a single star that is being held by two upright leopards, which are standing on large crossed spears below them. “SOMALI REPUBLIC” is inscribed above the shield and the face value of "100 SHILLINGS below it. The year the coin was minted is split on either side of the shield with the first two digits to the left and the last two to the right.

Reverse: The reverse of the coin features a new leopard design every year. Most designs feature a solitary leopard exploring its Somalian environment, but some feature leopard cubs as well. The phrases “AFRICAN WILDLIFE” and “LEOPARD” are inscribed on the outer rim , as is the weight and purity of the silver "1 OZ AG 999".
