Tokelau Lunar

Tokelau began it's foray into the bullion minting realm in 2013. They partnered with Treasures of Oz and began producing a Lunar series. The 2013 year of the Snake coin minted by Mayer Mint for Tokelau/Treasures of Oz was produced in reverse-proof, antique and proof version. Varieties exploded in 2014 with not just the initial reverse-proof, antique and proof versions, but with a true satin-finish bullion coin. Previously, the reverse-proof version with its 50,000 mintage was considered the bullion version of a sorts, but it’s now been supplanted by this Sunshine Mint struck coin.

This short lived series ended in 2015 with the Year of the Goat coin. The 2014 and 2015 were produced by Sunshine Mint. All coins in the series are made of 1 OZ .999 Fine Silver and are legal tender with a denomination of $5.

Obverse: The obverse shows the Ian Rank Broadley portrait of QE2 over the national symbol of Tokelau, the Taluma. Inscribed around this is the Queens name, state of issue, date, denomination and purity. Beginning at the 9 o'clock position and reading counterclockwise the inscription reads "~FIVE DOLLARS 1 OZ 999 FINE SILVER~". The inscription from the 9 o'clock position reading clockwise is "ELIZABETH II TOKELAU XXXX" where XXXX is the date.

Reverse: The reverse of the coins in the series are detailed, yet simple. Each animal is depicted in a natural habitat and the images contain finely engraved details. The only text found on the reverse is the date which is located in a rectangular box towards the upper left of the coin.
