Fractional Silver
The most common size for a retail silver round or bar is 1 Troy Oz. Larger size bars were made primarily for investors while the silver price and cost of manufacturing didn't seem to justify fractional sizes. With the silver price advance in recent years, it became more economical and desirable to produce fractional sizes. A few mints experimented with fractional rounds during the 1970's through 1990's, but most fractional sizes are of more recent origin.
Listed in this category are rounds and bars less than 1 Oz in weight. Common weights for the English system are 1/20 Oz, 1/10 Oz, 1/4 Oz, and 1/2 Oz with 3/4 Oz being somewhat less common. For the metric system, silver has been produced in 1 Gram, 2 Gram, 5 Gram, 10 Gram, and 20 Gram sizes.
