This is the first round of the 12-round US Postal Service series minted from 1971 to 1979. It was the only round minted in Sterling and weighed around 26 grams. This round sold out quickly from the Postique stores and is difficult to find.
Obverse: The central image on the obverse depicts the logo of the United States Postal Service. The logo features a right-facing eagle in flight with the words "US MAIL" located below, inscribed between bars. Stars and the words "UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE" form a box around the central image. The date "1971" is found at the bottom.
Reverse: The reverse features a map of the world in the form of a Goode's Homolosine map. The words "US MAIL" are inscribed beneath it. Around the edge is the phrase "BRINGING THE WORLD TO AMERICA'S DOORSTEP".
Edge: The edge is smooth and contains the word "STERLING" along with a serial number at the top.
